The excitement builds as we look forward to spending time with family and friends over the Fourth of July holiday. As we celebrate, did you know that Americans will light about 200 million pounds of fireworks, consume over 150 million hotdogs, and nearly 50 million people are planning to travel over the long weekend?

With fun-filled activities and more people on the go, this particular holiday is known for being one of the most dangerous. Emergency rooms see an increase in extreme sunburn cases, heat exhaustion and dehydration, food poisoning, and traffic accident or firework-related injuries. These are only to name a few.

We thought this would be a good time to offer some reminders on when it’s best to use either telemedicine, urgent care or emergency room services if the need arises. This helpful flyer, Where For Care, is provided by our health plan consultants from Benefit Dynamics Company.

Also, when the sun is out, you want to get outside and enjoy the warmth. A little vitamin D is great, but be careful! Experiencing five sunburns in life can double a person’s melanoma (skin cancer) risk. Check out these helpful sun-safety tips for extra ways to protect you and your loved ones.

A very Happy Fourth of July to you and yours!
