Did you know that preventive care screenings can prevent 85% of illness and disease and are covered at no additional cost to members enrolled in the Alliance Health Plan? Preventive care shifts the focus of health care from treating sickness to maintaining good health and includes a variety of health-care services such as a physical examination, screenings, laboratory tests, counseling and immunizations.
Taking advantage of preventive care benefits can truly be life-saving. Problems or concerns can be detected in the early stages and when diseases are more readily treatable. Another advantage is potentially saving money and lowering long-term or more complex medical costs which might occur in a later stage. It can also help to reduce overall medical expenses by keeping people productive and enabling them to continue earning an income well into their senior years. Most people don’t realize that health-care costs are the number one cause of bankruptcy and that 46% of retired people were forced into it before they were ready because of health-care problems.
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield has created an excellent short video entitled Health Insurance Explained: What Is Preventive Care? explaining more about preventive care services and how they work and relate to your health care. Anthem also provides a helpful guideline that will give you what types of screenings and vaccines fall under preventive care based on your age and gender.
And don’t forget—employees and their spouses enrolled in the Alliance Health Plan are eligible to each receive a $50 wellness gift card for completing their annual wellness exam. This gift card is available once per calendar year. So don’t miss out for 2019! There is still plenty of time to schedule a wellness exam with your doctor for this year.
