Church Treasurers

laying in the grassThe Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) developed a self-funded Health Plan in 1980 in order to provide competitive and affordable health plans for its pastors, international workers and employees of supporting C&MA organizations.

Alliance Benefits (formerly The Office of Employee Benefits) became responsible for administration of the plan in January 1998 and in 1999 restructured to incorporate additional professionals to further serve the needs of the ministry. The office operates under the authority of the Benefit Board, established by General Council in 1999.

The Benefit Board governs both the Health and Retirement Plans. Currently, we serve more than 2,100 active and retired employees enrolled in our health and life insurance plans. We also provide retirement benefits to 2,800 active employees and process 500 retired clergy and lay employees’ pension payments through the Fellowship Fund Defined Benefit Plan.

Who is Eligible?

C&MA U.S. official workers/employees are eligible if they are active, regular, full-time employees of a C&MA district office or local church, and any agency, auxiliary organization or institution officially related to the C&MA.

In order for C&MA U.S. official workers/employees to be eligible to participate in the Health Plan, an employer/church must be located in a cooperating district that has agreed to have at least 50% of eligible official workers participating. Each participating church must enroll 100% of eligible official workers unless covered by a spouse’s employer’s plan or government-sponsored plan such as Medicare or Medicaid.

Participating Districts
As of 5/1/09, participating districts are Central, Eastern Pennsylvania, Great Lakes, Metropolitan, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, New England, Northwestern, Ohio Valley, Rocky Mountain, South Atlantic, Southeastern, Southwestern, MidAmerica, and Western Great Lakes. Other districts are welcome to join at any time. Please call Alliance Benefits for details.

Employment/Information Changes

Participants must notify Alliance Benefits within 30 days of changes that could affect their coverage, including the birth of a child.

Leaving the Plan
Please notify Alliance Benefits within 30 days when one of your pastors/employees leaves, changes to part-time status or moves to another church within your district. Benefits are tied to employment and must end when a pastor/employee leaves.

Employees who transition to another participating C&MA employer may be able to continue benefits without interruption, but must notify Alliance Benefits and complete paperwork within 30 days. We do not provide COBRA, but employees may be eligible for up to 12 months of Coverage Extension of health benefits at their personal expense (this may be provided by the employer as part of a severance package). Your church must inform us within 30 days of active, physical employment ending, not at the end of the severance period.

Terminating employees may be eligible to convert Life Insurance and Long Term Disability coverage to individual polices at a higher rate structure.
