Reaching Age 65

In today’s world many employees continue working well beyond age 65. However, some benefits change at age 65, even when you are actively employed.

Your Health Coverage and Medicare
Becoming Medicare eligible may significantly change your coverage. Contacting Alliance Benefits at least four months prior to you or your spouse turning 65 will better prepare you for important decisions affecting your well-being.

The C&MA Health Plan is a multi-employer church plan. If your local employer (church) has fewer than 20 employees, Medicare will be the primary claims payer for the participant who is turning 65. You may wish to consider your health plan choices at this time:

  • If you choose to remain on the C&MA Health Plan, you are required to purchase Medicare Part B and to complete paperwork with Alliance Benefits prior to your 65th birthday.
  • The C&MA does not have a Medicare Supplement, and will not function like a Medicare supplement if you remain on the C&MA Health Plan while Medicare is your primary payer.
  • For more information please read the Medicare Booklet “Medicare & You.”

Please contact Alliance Benefits for details.

Your Life Insurance at age 65

When you turn age 65 as an active employee, your Basic Life insurance reduces to 70% of the face amount. You may be able to convert the lost coverage within 30 days. Please contact Alliance Benefits to learn more about age-based reductions in life insurance coverage.
