Loss of Other Coverage

If you have involuntarily lost your current health coverage, you may be eligible to enroll in the C&MA Health Plan. However, you must notify Alliance Benefits within 30 days of your loss of other coverage. Additionally, eligible dependents may enroll within 30 days of a dependent's involuntary loss of other coverage (affected dependent only).

Here are some examples of Involuntary Loss of Other Coverage

  • Your spouse leaves employment for any reason and so loses eligibility for employer-sponsored health coverage
  • Your child not longer qualifies for a state plan such as Medicaid
  • A significant premium increase of other coverage qualifies for Special Enrollment

What is not Involuntary Loss of Other Coverage

  • You are enrolled in coverage elsewhere but decide you want to end that coverage so you can switch to the C&MA Health Plan
  • You decide not to renew your coverage at renewal date
  • If one dependent loses eligibility for other coverage, that does not result in Special Enrollment

If you do not qualify for Special Enrollment, if eligible, you may enroll in the C&MA plan at Open Enrollment. It is strongly recommended that you maintain existing coverage until your C&MA coverage begins.
